| The contributions of agricultural historians
(including members of the Society) were featured in the recent BBC-2 series
of four programmes on the history of British farming.
Entitled 'FRUITFUL EARTH', it was presented and written by Prof. Alun Howkins, of Sussex University, and took the story of farming in the British Isles from the earliest times up to the present. Strikingly filmed by the production team from BBC Cardiff, it achieved the good viewing figure of 1.3 million (on a Sunday evening in August) over all four programmes, and was evidence of the strong public interest in farming and the countryside. The BBC will make available the video of the programme for a limited period, for a cost of £25. Enquiries should be sent to BBC-2 at Cardiff. |
