Livestock Feed Grains in the 19th century

Post by vstern1981 » 30 Jan 2018, 21:48

Can anyone tell me what grains were typically fed to cattle, sheep and horses in the late 19th century?

Horses were overwhelmingly fed on oats, but also combinations of root vegetables and hay, depending on season and work. his is something I have looked into in some depth, but know much less about sheep (who may not have had so much additional fodder at all) and cattle (where seed cake and straws were widely used).
