Essex RO holds Essex WAC records under D/Z 45 in their catalogue - these appear to be for the period 1915-1917.

I think you may be correct, that the original author is less than clear what he is saying. In particular, he says that the Welsh design means that the user "need not step his foot backward at every reach". Well, having used a conventional rake as a lad (and since), I have never had to step backward ...

Ironwork in a threshing barn
During a recent recording of a threshing barn in Worcestershire, ironwork was observed under the purlin on each side of the threshing floor and in the other extant bay - see photo below IMG_7721.JPG Does anyone know what this is for? The purlins are approx. 6.5m (20ft) above floor level. Thanks, Alan
