During a recent recording of a threshing barn in Worcestershire, ironwork was observed under the purlin on each side of the threshing floor and in the other extant bay - see photo below
Does anyone know what this is for? The purlins are approx. 6.5m (20ft) above floor level.

are the purlins overspanning to any degree? one can see this method used in trusses elsewhere to provide an opposing moment. are the attachments strong or just for 'tying off'?

Apologies for delay in reply - distracted by other stuff.
The purlins are not overspanning. The attachments appear to be 1” dia steel bar.
