Dear All
Looking for info on Common Rights, especially as pertaining to marshes, coastline and wild fowling in North Norfolk.
Thanks

Re: Common Rights
I was pleased to learn of your interest in common rights in north Norfolk. I think you'll find the following book useful: Christopher P. Rodgers, Eleanor A Straughton, Angus J L Winchester and Margherita Pieraccini, Contested Common Land: environmental governance past and present (Earthscan, 2011), ISBN 978-1-84971-094-7. Chapter 9 is a case study of the commons at Brancaster and Thornham.

Dear Barbara,
On wildfowling, see the chapter by John Martin in the book I edited in 2007, Our hunting fathers. Field sports in England after 1850.

Re: Common Rights
I am also interested in Commons and allotments on common land. On the 1867 tithes maps I have traced an allotment on a land which was a common but not longer appears as such on maps. Did such allotments disappear some point last century or do allotment exist in perpetuity if you have them?
Re: Common Rights
I think I would need to know more before I could really answer. is this land left as a common allotment after a previous enclosure award?
It sounds strange anyhow
